The Emergency Department at The Hospital of Saint Raphael provides the highest level of uninterrupted emergency care to the greater New Haven community and beyond.  From the latest in stroke intervention technologies to around-the-clock cardiovascular services, this Level II Trauma Center is ready 24-7.  The department is staffed by a team of specially-trained emergency medical professionals committed to the delivery of prompt, courteous and expert emergency care.

The Emergency Department partners with area Emergency Medical Prehospital Care providers to rapidly assess and treat patients with heart attack, stroke, major trauma, life-threatening infections and acute mental illness.  The Emergency Department is a leader among emergency departments in its use of technologically advanced tools to evaluate patients including: 

• Bedside ultrasound for quick assessment of major organ injuries
• Large diagnostic and treatment areas specifically designed for both critically ill patients and for those with minor injuries or illnesses
• Digital X-rays for immediate analysis by radiologists and emergency medicine physicians
• Convenient bedside registration to reduce wait time
• Electronic Medical Records
• Computerized order entry
